Everyone dreams about a sweet and restful night’s sleep that will see them wake up fresh and rested in the morning. However, this is a demanding task when it comes to handling hot and humid summer nights that often have us turning and changing sides of our pillows.

Not even the coolest mattress or pillow can keep us breezy, which is why you should check some of the best bed cooling systems we dedicated.

If you’re working outside during summer, chances are you’ll overheat and overwork, which requires a lasting and relaxing rest. However, traditional mattresses and sheets easily get warm. A good bed cooling system will ensure that you will stay asleep, even in the hottest nights.

What is a Bed Cooling System?

There’s no universal definition for a bed cooling system. However, if we had to invent one, it’s a system or a unit that has components with cooling components, which could actively or passively help your mattress remain cool through the night and help you have a lasting and restful sleep without tossing and turning.

In some situations, people decide on a mattress pad with cooling properties. However, for people who live in hot and humid places, that’s not enough, and they’ll either decide on a sleeping system or a blower fan that can blow air in your mattress.

Types of Bed Cooling Systems

Air conditioning systems (AC) and fans can be a suitable solution for your hot summer bedroom. However, AC can be expensive, especially if you already install it at multiple locations at home.

Additionally, a study has found that despite their cooling effects, air conditioners can disrupt your sleeping cycle, causing you to sleep in an uncomfortable position and affecting the depth of your sleep.

Also, they can create a dry air environment which is an uncomfortable environment to sleep in. The fans on the other hand can be ineffective if your room is too hot and they only end up circulating already hot air.

Common types of bed cooling systems are:

Passive Bed Cooling

Passive bed cooling isn’t exactly an electronic system like the units we’ll review in this article, but they’re worth mentioning for those who either can’t afford them or don’t have a room that’s hot enough to use the cooling system. Those include:

  • Mattress pads
  • Mattress toppers.

They help maintain the breezy temperature by using a special formula that distributes the bodily heat across the sleeping surface and keeps consistent airflow in and out of bed. Most of the mattress toppers use gel-infused memory foam or beds, that keep the sleeping material cool.

Another option is also a bed cooling pad, which is already filled with cool water, but it can eventually get hot.

If your room is already warm, then there’s no point in using the pads or toppers because they’ve already absorbed your body temperature and have no cool air to absorb. If you feel you’re sweating too much and can’t stay asleep for extended amounts of time, perhaps there are other options to consider.

Active Bed Cooling Systems

Active bed cooling includes using bed fans, air cooling, or water cooling. These three allow for more temperature regulation because they not only remove the hot air, they also infuse the cool room air in your bed, and work activities through the night.

Air-Cooling Systems

Bed fans and air cooling systems naturally use air that they ventilate through the sheets or push it into a cooling blanket. It resembles fans, but they are more effective at managing the air and distributing it through the bed.

Water Cooling Systems

As their name suggests, they mainly consist of a boxed unit that has a thermostat and a water tank that manages the temperature of the water.

Using tubes, it ejects the water into the plastic-made padding which is either located under the sheets or mattress topper and regulates the temperature. On most occasions, these systems are reliable and don’t compromise the quality of sleep.

Who Should Use Bed Cooling Systems?

  • People who sweat a lot and need a way to regulate the body and mattress temperature without constantly waking up at night.
  • People who live in hot and humid areas and can’t regulate the temperature in their room.
  • People who can’t implement the air conditioning system and regular blow fan doesn’t suffice.
  • Those who sleep with a partner who has different sleeping preferences than them.
  • People who have hot flashes.

Who Shouldn’t Use Bed Cooling Systems?

  • People who think that using a cooling system will regulate the temperature in the entire room or substitute an air conditioning unit.
  • Those who live in small bedrooms and can’t fit the cooling unit next to their bed.

Can You Use Bed Cooling Systems For Heating Too?

A lot of people who are shopping for cooling systems are wondering whether they can use them to warm up the sleeping surface during cold winter nights.

The answer is yes because the models we presented in this review have a spacious temperature range. Some support temperature from 60 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit while some can reach up to 115, which is more than enough to make the bedside warm for winter nights.

7 Best Bed Cooling Systems

1. Best Overall: BedJet V3

Cube-shaped advanced sleeping systems are relatively new in the industry and with that in mind the competition isn’t as vast. That has allowed amazing company BedJet to kickstart its breezy journey to the bedrooms around the world to provide cool and restful sleeping experience.

bedjet 3
Know More Details On Bedjet

Its BedJet product has enjoyed huge success thanks to its cutting-edge and award-winning technology, back in 2014. The company has reached well into its V3 product which comes with amazing features and will appeal to people with smaller bedrooms.

The futuristic features are exactly what attracted us to write a review of BedJet V3 in full detail and announce it our first pick among the best bed cooling systems. Here’s what it comes with.

A lot of cooling systems may compromise your sleeping experience. While BedJet doesn’t substitute an air-conditioning system and won’t cool down your entire room, it’ll work wonders on your mattress, sheets, toppers, pads, and pillow.

Unlike many other companies that use water that gets brought to your mattress through wires and tubes, BedJet V3 is an air-based cooling system. If you feel cold at times, you can also use it to warm your bed, in the cold nights.

One of the best features is that it works extremely fast, so even before you blink, you’ll be able to feel the instant change in the ambient of your bed, allowing you to sleep calmly and deeply without sweating or overheating. Additionally, given that no tubes and wires are surrounding your bed, there are no EMF emissions or radiation on your bed.

How does it work?

The BedJet system easily connects to your bedding and attaches to a Cloud Sheet, which sells separately, however, to make the bed even cooler and fresher.

While the regular BedJet system suffices, Cloud Sheet would make the cooling even smoother and may appeal to consumers even more if the nights are unbearably hot.

It is perfect support for those who need relief from hot flashes, night dizziness, headaches, night sweats, and simple overheating caused by the memory foam mattress construction.

Aside from treating temperature, BedJet also does a great job when it comes to high-humidity areas. Areas where the humidity is high, pretty much unbearable make sleeping difficult because you’ll feel sweatier as a result of combined heat.

Its Cooling mode uses the room temperature to cool your body temperature as well as the bed, and the effect is immediate.

As mentioned above, the system doesn’t substitute a fan or air conditioning system, which means that if it’s too hot in the room, it’s likely that the cooling system won’t work all that good. Additionally, you may want to have your room temperature below 79 degrees to provide better-grade cooling.

Another interesting mode on this device is called the Night Sweat Management mode, which reduces moisture and humidity in the room. Aside from Cloud Sheet, you can also upgrade to have the Dual-zone temperature on each side of your bed so your partner could also experience the desired cooling. You can manage the temperature from 66 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Key Features:

  • Extreme value because it can both cool and warm up your bed, adding up to comfort.
  • Removes moisture from your body.
  • 3 Single Zone with attachment assembly which easily gets the cool air to your bed.
  • It’s ETL listed to UL standards.
  • Multi-feature colorful remote control, which helps adjust the temperature, as well as a free Android and iOS app.
  • 60-day sleep trial and 100% return guarantee.
  • Two-year warranty, but if you pay additionally, you can get 4 years warranty.

Drawbacks: There are not a lot of drawbacks worth pointing out, but we noticed that the cooling system can be extremely loud at high speeds. Also, some features require you to pay additionally to enjoy the full experience. Another thing we minded is that it can operate effectively only under certain room temperature as a result of air operation.

2. Runner Up: BedJet V2

If you’d like a little more affordable option for your rapid-cooling sleeping experience, or the V3 is out of stock, BedJet V2 is equipped with the most features that the V3 has.

It’s a valuable investment because you can easily and swiftly change the sleeping experience and wake up rested and refreshed.

Know More Details On Bedjet

It genuinely works similarly to BedJet V3, except that it’s a little louder. There is a unique air-based cooling technology, and thanks to the wide temperature range, you can easily warm up your feet during the cold nights.

The best part about BedJet is that it functions extremely quickly and you’re to feel relief as soon as you activate it on your sleeping surface. Just like with its successor, you can order the Cloud Sheet to provide a more rapid sleeping experience, as well as the dual-zone cooling for each side of the bed.

This is an ideal buy for people who live in the south and need a little cooling whole year long. There are no annoying wires and tubes and the EMS is minimal so you don’t have to worry about potential damage to your body.

Unlike the mattress pads, BedJet will quickly dry the sweat off your bad, up to 8 times more compared to the traditional, passive sleeping equipment.

What makes both of the BedJet devices unique is the biorhythm sleep technology which is programmable and allows users to personalize their cooling and warming settings for every hour.

The sweating and heat cause us to toss and turn every night several times and even wake up. You can pre-program your device to change the model it operates under to conform to your sleeping technique, creating the coolest atmosphere while you’re in deep sleep.

That said, you can relax and submerge into the peaceful and lasting night rest, from which you can wake up relaxed and rested. BedJet also has a temperature wake-up trigger which will gradually warm the bed and shift temperature to encourage gradual waking up.

Key Features:

  • It also features a 60-night sweat-free night trial and free return policy.
  • Biorhythm sleep technology that adjusts the cooling intensity based on your sleeping zone.
  • The intuitive remote control that helps adjust the night rest.
  • Encourages gradual waking up as a result of a temperature wake-up trigger.

Drawbacks: It’s even louder compared to the V3. Also, it may perform a bit slower and take a little longer to cool or warm up the bed. Either way, that’s the cost of a lower version compared to our primary choice.

3. Best Budget: Mattress Cooler “Classic” Chilled Water Sleep Cooling System

Given that this is a new technology and the competition is still relatively low, it’s extremely hard to find an affordable option for cooling systems for bed.

However, the Mattress Cooler Classic is one of the best options you can squeeze for the money. It does everything a good mattress cooling system should do. It provides the means that allow you to sleep effortlessly, a whole night without waking up sweating or hot.

Its technology promotes evaporative cooling. Unlike the JetPad models, it uses a water tank and tubes to supply cold water to complement your sleeping.

The unit that comfortably fits next to or under your bed chills down the water using the evaporative cooling technology which helps the cool air circulate through the air. That means that it can operate even at the temperatures that are higher than usual.

You can position it under the mattress topper or sheets, it has a thin PVC mattress topper, which still feels thick and comfortable when laying on it.

If you tend to overwork yourself at work, don’t worry, the Mattress Cooler Classic will help you remove the excess body heat and lowers your body temperature at night to promote a healthy rest.

You can determine the room temperature, while the system will drop it anywhere from 7 to 12 degrees below the current room temperature. Lastly, you can use the fan to accelerate the evaporation and cooling process.

Key features:

  • It works efficiently and can keep your mattress cool the whole night.
  • It comes with an intuitive remote control that helps to maneuver with temperature easier.
  • The fan can accelerate the evaporation process and keep the room temperature low too.
  • It can easily fit under the sheets or a mattress topper if you have one.
  • It doesn’t cause discomfort to lay on it.

Drawbacks: Given the price, you can see the difference in quality compared to the other models. The tubes can easily break causing leakage in certain situations, and the warranty lasts only three months, unlike with other products that last from two to four years.

Another thing we minded is that the PVC sheet sometimes slips down while you’re sleeping and there’s not a lot of ways to fix its position.

It took over 10 years to develop, and the result is amazing. It is one of the most powerful hydro-powered systems and appeals to different bedrooms thanks to its size.

It uses EMF-free channels to deliver cool or warm water, depending on what you need. It allows for consistent control which distributes the heat or cool sensation all across its length on the bed. One of the best features is that it can fit any size and style on a mattress or a topper.

ChiliPAD

I don’t know that touting that the Bed Jet removes moisture from your body is something people want to happen. Who wants to wake up feeling dry and shriveled? If it dries my skin, it’s not a device I would use. I spend too much time moisturizing it. Knowingly using a device that adds that ‘feature’ would make it a NO for me!
